Homemade Gluten Free Bisquick Recipe
A simple yet healthy recipe for homemade
gluten-free Bisquick to use as a Bisquick
replacement in any recipe.
Servings:
Ingredients
(to use in a 2-cup Bisquick recipe)
1-3/4 cups whole oats (gluten free)
1/2 cup tapioca flour aka tapioca starch
2 tbs. baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp xanthan gum
2 tbs. coconut or avocado oil (You can use
applesauce, or banana, to make it fat-free).
Note: I have noticed that recipes occasionally
require slightly more liquid when using this gluten-free
Bisquick. You’ll need to decide when it’s mixed.
For a larger batch to store in the fridge,
4 cups finely ground oat flour (16 ounces; 455 grams)
2 cups tapioca starch (8 ounces; 226 grams)
1/4 cup granulated sugar (1 3/4 ounces; 50 grams)
3 tablespoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoon xanthan gum
1 cup solid coconut oil (8 ounces; 226 grams)
Instructions
How do I make my own gluten free Bisquick?
Start the same way as you do to make my basic
all-purpose gluten-free flour recipe…
Put gluten-free instant or whole oats into a food processor
or coffee grinder. Blend for about 1 minute until the oats
have turned into flour.
Pour into a wire mesh strainer or a flour sifter and sift
over a large bowl until all the fine flour has fallen through.
(Throw away any large pieces of bran that are left in
the strainer).
Add tapioca flour, xanthan gum, baking powder, and
salt to the oat flour and then give it a good whisk.
NOTE: If you wish to add the coconut oil, add all of the
dry ingredients, along with 2 tbs. of coconut oil, to a food
processor and blend until it’s all incorporated. Store in
an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 month and
use it as you would Bisquick.
Recipe Notes:
I have noticed that recipes occasionally require
slightly more liquid when using this gluten-free
Bisquick if you use homemade oat flour vs. the
store-bought flour.
The homemade oat flour tends to have more
bran than the store bought oat flour and works
better if you measure by weight than volume.
Make sure to mix it up well so you have the
proportions evenly distributed within the blend.
What recipes can I make with this gluten-free Bisquick mix?
This Bisquick makes delicious gluten-free biscuits, pancakes
or shortcake! Anything that you make with Bisquick can be
swapped for this recipe to make it gluten-free!
Is Bisquick vegan?
Some varieties of Bisquick are vegan like the
Heart Smart or Gluten Free Bisquick. The
buttermilk varieties are not vegan. This
homemade Bisquick recipe is vegan,
however!
My family’s absolute favorite recipe to make with this
Bisquick are these Vegan Cheddar Bay Red Lobster
Biscuits! They are simply amazing when made with
this homemade Bisquick!
